Obituary for Irving E. Wright

Oakland, ME-- Irving E. Wright, 91, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 3, 2018, at his home in Oakland, ME after a long illness and is now in God’s hands.

He was born January 24, 1926, the son of Warren "Gus" Wright and Lillian Wheeler Wright. He attended Boylston High School in Boylston, Mass.

He married the love of his life, Joyce Bickford, in Westboro, Mass. in 1953. Irving loved and dedicated his life to his two sons Bruce and Barry; his granddaughter; and his three great grandsons.

Irving lived a life of hard work, starting as a boy on the family farm and making a living as a carpenter and owner of his own business. Irving and Joyce lived in No. Grafton, Mass. for 15 years before moving to Augusta, Maine in 1969.

He was a Mason and Shriner in both states and worked tirelessly for that cause. He loved their cottage on Great Pond in Belgrade Lakes, ME and his winter home in Florida, where he could go boating and fishing anytime he wanted. He often said his cottage was the prettiest spot on the lake and it had a beautiful view of most of the lake with fantastic sunsets.

Irving was a magnet to kids as he loved them all and they loved him. He would make homemade wooden toys for them. His love for cribbage was unbelievable as he would play for hours at a time. He would get the board out as soon as you walked in the door.

Irving is survived by his wife Joyce of 65 years; his son, Barry Wright and his partner Sherry Stevens of Livermore Falls; one granddaughter, Jessica Mullen and husband Brian; three great grandsons; and also Paws, his beloved friend and special cat.

He was predeceased by his son, Bruce Wright; his parents, Gus and Lillian; and six brothers.

The family sends special thanks to Ken for taking time to play cribbage (and the pickles) when Irving was in failing health, as well as special thanks to all the people from Hospice who were so caring and dedicated in making his final days easier for all.

At Irving's request, there will be no viewing or funeral services. Those who wish may make a gift in his name to the Waterville Humane Society, 100 Webb Road, Waterville, ME 04901 or to UNA Home Health Hospice, 50 Foden Road, South Portland, ME 04106.
