Marietta Johnston Obituary (1938 - 2013)

SHAWMUT, MAINE—Marietta “Marie” (York) Johnston, 74, passed away on Friday, February 15, 2013, at Maine General Medical Center-Thayer Campus in Waterville, Maine. She was born in Winslow, Maine on October 23, 1938, the daughter of the late Maurice and Emily (Poulliot) York. Marie married Wayne E. Johnston on November 16, 1957. They spent many wonderful years together until his passing on September 8, 2009. Marie and Wayne resided in Shawmut, Maine their entire lives, and had one child, Lucie Johnston Stewart. She was employed by C.F. Hathaway for 33 years before taking early retirement. She would also help her husband in the wood working shop and plowing snow. The couple took a trip around the country in 2006, prior to Wayne’s death. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brothers, Maurice York Jr., and Lionel York and his wife, Gloria; her sister, Lorraine; her brothers- in-law, Barry Jerry and Sonny Johnston; and a very special dog, Tucker. Marie is survived by her daughter, Lucie Stewart and her husband, Randy of Shawmut, Maine; grandchildren, Erica Strickland and her boyfriend, Jacob Pierce of Benton, Maine, Adam Strickland and his wife, Shanna of Shawmut, Maine, Eriq Stewart and his girlfriend, Maggie Quirion, and Kayla Stewart and her boyfriend, Nick Blood; great grandchildren, Aidan Giovaccini, Jayden Strickland, Zackary Strickland, and Kaitlynn Pierce; her nieces and nephews, Theresa Boulos and her husband, Steven, Butch York and his wife, Celia, Ryan Johnston and his wife Tammy, Jen Johnston and her fiancé David Trott, and Scott King; great nephew, Scotty King; her sisters- in-law, Bet King and her husband, Tom, and Margaret Johnston; and a very special dog, Hannah. A special thanks to granddaughter Erica for caring for her grandmother until recently becoming ill herself. The family would also like to thank Lionel York and his girlfriend, Marybeth for all their support recently. Visiting hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. with a funeral service to begin at 4 p.m. on Monday, February 25 at Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, 107 Main St., Fairfield, Maine. Burial will be in the spring.
