WATERVILLE, MAINE—Delmont F. Meader, 98, passed away at Oak Grove Continuing Care Center on Thursday, August 2, 2012, with members of his family by his side. He was born on July 16, 1914, in Albion, Maine, the sixth son of the late C. Edwin and Cora (Whitaker) Meader. Delmont was a graduate of Besse High School in Albion, Maine and worked at various vocations in farming, carpentry, and retail sales before being hired by the Maine Department of Transportation in 1952. He retired in 1974 as a statistician for the DOT. On December 7, 1935, he married Edna Bailey and they made their home in China, Maine for most of their married life. In their early retirement years, they spent winters in Mt. Dora, Florida. Delmont’s hobbies included being the “fix it man” for family and friends and working on the South China Community Church renovations. He was an active member of China Baptist Church for 50 years and in 1995, he and Edna joined the South China Community Church where they remained active until health issues limited them. In 2009, he received his 60 year membership pin from Central Lodge No. 45 A.F. & A.M. Masonic Order, having been a Past Master. Delmont was predeceased by his wife Edna on February 29, 2008; his five brothers, Kenneth, Lloyd, Harold, Forrest, and Ernest; and a grandson-in-law, Dan Gwadosky. He is survived by his daughters, Joyce Norton and her husband, H. Richard, and Janice Overlock and her husband, Charles; his grandchildren, Valerie Williams and husband Michael, Kathleen Poulin and husband Michael, Cindy Collins and husband Michael, Bradley Overlock, Cheryl Gwadosky, Douglas Norton and wife Kathy, Stephen Norton, and Timothy Norton and wife Karen; 21 great grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at the South China Community Church, 245 Village St., S.
