Janet Rosella (Smith) Boynton, 69, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 19, 2011, at her daughters residence in Unity, Maine. She was born in Unity, Maine on February 16, 1942, the daughter of Bernard Dobson Smith and Marjorie Pearl (Stevens) Smith. She attended Unity-Freedom High School, graduating in 1960. Janet worked in several different capacities over the years, the longest being Orion Ropeworks (formerly Crowe Rope) from which she retired in 2010. She enjoyed gardening, volunteering at the Winslow Public Library, and spending time with her grandchildren, family, and friends. She also enjoyed doing genealogy and was a member of the Taconnet Falls Chapter of the Maine Genealogical Society. She was also a member of the Freedom Cemetery Committee, Budget Committee, and Freedom Recreation Committee. She enjoyed traveling, and most recently had visited Scotland, a country she had always wanted to see. She was predeceased by her father, Bernard Smith; mother, Marjorie Smith; former husband, Irving Bruce Boynton; sister, Carlene Smith; brother, Cecil Smith; and brother in law, Lawrence Wyman. Janet is survived by her children, Christopher L. Boynton of Freedom, David G. Boynton and his wife, Chang of Leesburg, VA and NYC, and their children, Jessica and Michael, Julianna Shibles and her husband, Kendall of Unity, and their children, Kendric, Chantelle and Charliza; sisters, Gladys Holmes and her husband, Clinton of Knox, and Charlene Wyman of Pittsfield; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family would like to thank the nurses at the Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care, and all the friends, and family that provided support, and compassion throughout her illness. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Janets name to the Freedom Recreation Committee. A graveside service will take place at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 25 at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Freedom.
